ClassDa.sh VPAT® 2.5 (WCAG edition)
Report date October 24, 2026 · Based on ITI's VPAT 2.5 WCAG template
About this report
| Name of product | ClassDa.sh: the website at classda.sh and the classroom board at classda.sh/live, as published on the report date. The product is a website and web application; there is no version number, because every visitor gets the current release. |
|---|---|
| Product description | A free homeroom manager for K–6 teachers: one full-screen board, run from the teacher's computer and shown on the classroom's interactive display, with the class list, attendance, positive behaviour points, the bell schedule, a learning target from state standards, lesson plans and slides, and quick classroom tools (timers, a noise meter, a name picker, groups, games). It has no accounts and keeps the class in the teacher's browser. Students see and may tap the board; they do not use it on their own devices. |

| Notes | Two kinds of content are covered: the reading pages (About, Why free, Teachers, Administrators, IT, Security, Privacy, Terms, Accessibility and this report), which are ordinary documents, and the board, a shared classroom display read by a whole room at once and operated by the teacher, usually by touch. Where the two differ, the remarks say which is meant and the conformance level is the lower of the two. The plain-words summary, with what's built for every child and teacher, is the accessibility page. |
| Evaluation methods used | Self-evaluation by the developer, not an outside audit: a review of the code and the pages against each criterion, keyboard-only use and browser zoom in Chrome and Edge on Windows, the accessibility tree in Chrome's developer tools, the reduce-motion setting and the high-contrast looks. The board has not yet been tested with a screen reader, and no third-party accessibility audit has been done. We will update this report as the board changes and when testing with assistive technology is complete. |

In short: the reading pages meet WCAG 2.1 AA. The board is a shared, touch-first classroom display that works for the room it's shown to (large type, strong outlines, colour never alone for anything the class must act on, every sound with a picture, a calm mode and two high-contrast looks) but does not yet fully support assistive technology: many of its picture buttons lack names and roles, not every control is reachable by keyboard, focus is not always visible, and status messages are not announced. Those are the items we are working through, in that order.
WCAG 2.1 report
| Criteria | Conformance level | Remarks and explanations |
|---|---|---|
| 1.1.1 Non-text Content (Level A) | Partially Supports | Pages: pictures carry a text alternative or are marked decorative. Board: most buttons show a word under their picture, but the students' pictures (animals, aliens, emojis) and a number of picture-only controls (corner tabs on a tile, the eye, the cog) have no text alternative yet. |
| 1.2.1 Audio-only and Video-only (Prerecorded) (Level A) | Not Applicable | ClassDa.sh publishes no prerecorded audio-only or video-only content of its own. Its sound effects are short cues that always have a visual equivalent (see 1.4.2); videos a teacher plays come from the video sites listed on the IT page, under their players. |
| 1.2.2 Captions (Prerecorded) (Level A) | Not Applicable | No prerecorded video of our own. Third-party videos a teacher chooses are played in that site's own player, which provides its captions. |
| 1.2.3 Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded) (Level A) | Not Applicable | No prerecorded video of our own. |
| 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (Level A) | Partially Supports | Pages: headings, lists and data tables with header cells are marked up as such. Board: the class grid, the agenda and the tools panel are visual groupings whose relationships (which table a child sits at, which section a button belongs to) are not yet conveyed programmatically. |
| 1.3.2 Meaningful Sequence (Level A) | Partially Supports | Pages read in order. On the board the document order follows the layout (status bar, agenda, stage, tools) but has not been verified with a screen reader. |
| 1.3.3 Sensory Characteristics (Level A) | Partially Supports | Pages rely on no shape or position alone. Some board help and the setup guide's hand point to controls by position or colour ("the yellow circle", "the green corner") alongside their names. |
| 1.4.1 Use of Color (Level A) | Partially Supports | The traffic light keeps red on top, yellow in the middle and green at the bottom as well as its colour; team colours have distinct class names for high contrast. A picked child's tile is shown by a yellow border and question marks; a child who is out shows the word (Away, Absent, Bathroom). A tile's group number is colour-coded with the number shown. The red "moved" mark on lunch and dismissal lists is colour alone. |
| 1.4.2 Audio Control (Level A) | Supports | No sound plays until the teacher starts something. Every sound can be turned down or off: a master volume and four channel levels (Music, Alerts, Soundboard, Taps), an All sounds switch, and a Silent button on the panel. |
| 2.1.1 Keyboard (Level A) | Partially Supports | Pages: fully usable by keyboard. Board: Esc closes a tool, arrow keys move slides and sight words, the calculator and every text field take typing, but many board controls (tiles, corner tabs, drag-to-arrange editors) cannot yet be reached or operated from the keyboard. |
| 2.1.2 No Keyboard Trap (Level A) | Supports | Focus is never trapped: every pop-up and screen closes with Esc or its ✕, and the pages use ordinary links and buttons. |
| 2.1.4 Character Key Shortcuts (Level A) | Partially Supports | The board has a few single-letter shortcuts for the teacher. They are not active while a text field has focus, but they cannot yet be turned off or remapped. |
| 2.2.1 Timing Adjustable (Level A) | Supports | Every timer is set by the teacher. The teacher lock's unlock lasts 10 minutes and simply asks again; the small sign-up lists on the board close after a minute idle and reopen with a tap; nothing is lost when a time limit passes. |
| 2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide (Level A) | Partially Supports | Calm mode (Volume → Sounds, and Classroom setup → Sounds) stops the moving doodles, the wiggle of editable items, the confetti and other motion; it follows the device's reduce-motion setting unless set by hand. The front page's live preview, which plays on its own, cannot yet be paused. |
| 2.3.1 Three Flashes or Below Threshold (Level A) | Supports | Nothing flashes more than three times a second. Pulses (a picked tile, a late bathroom box) beat once a second or slower; confetti falls. |
| 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks (Level A) | Supports | Pages: header, navigation and main landmarks, so assistive technology can jump past the repeated navigation. The board is a single application screen with no repeated blocks to skip. |
| 2.4.2 Page Titled (Level A) | Supports | Every page has a descriptive title ("Trust and security · ClassDa.sh"). |
| 2.4.3 Focus Order (Level A) | Partially Supports | Pages: focus follows the reading order. Board: where controls can take focus the order follows the layout, but many controls cannot take focus yet (see 2.1.1). |
| 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context) (Level A) | Supports | Links are named by their destination in words ("the page for school IT teams", "privacy policy"); the Links screen's buttons carry the site's name. |
| 2.5.1 Pointer Gestures (Level A) | Partially Supports | Everything on the board works with single taps. Arranging things (seats, cubbies, tables, slides, panel buttons, schedule blocks) is done by dragging; most have a tap alternative (a seat can be picked then placed; sections move with arrows) but not all do yet. The piano's glide across keys is optional. |
| 2.5.2 Pointer Cancellation (Level A) | Partially Supports | Buttons act on release, and a drag can be abandoned by dropping where it started. This has not yet been verified for every control. |
| 2.5.3 Label in Name (Level A) | Partially Supports | Where a board button has a visible word, that word is its accessible name. Picture-only controls have no name yet (see 1.1.1). |
| 2.5.4 Motion Actuation (Level A) | Not Applicable | Nothing is operated by moving or shaking a device. |
| 3.1.1 Language of Page (Level A) | Supports | Every page declares English (lang="en"). |
| 3.2.1 On Focus (Level A) | Supports | Focusing a control changes nothing by itself. |
| 3.2.2 On Input (Level A) | Supports | Changing a setting applies that setting and nothing else; the class list saves itself as it is edited without leaving the page, and the page says Saved. |
| 3.3.1 Error Identification (Level A) | Partially Supports | File imports say in words what could not be read and what the file should hold. A few board fields (a time, a number) simply refuse a value they cannot use, without a message. |
| 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions (Level A) | Partially Supports | Setup and settings fields have visible labels, and importers explain their columns. A few fields on the board rely on placeholder text alone. |
| 4.1.1 Parsing (Level A) | Supports | Pages and board are generated by React: elements are complete and nested, and ids are unique. (This criterion is retired in WCAG 2.2.) |
| 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (Level A) | Partially Supports | Pages use native HTML elements, so name, role and state come for free. Board: many custom controls (tiles, corner tabs, the view toggle, drag handles) do not yet expose a name, role or state to assistive technology. |
| Criteria | Conformance level | Remarks and explanations |
|---|---|---|
| 1.2.4 Captions (Live) (Level AA) | Not Applicable | No live audio or video of our own. The Doc cam and Show a tab display the classroom's own camera or tab on the device; nothing is broadcast. |
| 1.2.5 Audio Description (Prerecorded) (Level AA) | Not Applicable | No prerecorded video of our own. |
| 1.3.4 Orientation (Level AA) | Supports | Nothing locks the orientation. The pages reflow either way; the board draws its 16:9 layout within whichever way the screen is turned; a phone gets its own portrait page. |
| 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose (Level AA) | Partially Supports | The only field about the teacher as a person is their name, used to name backup files; it does not yet carry an autocomplete purpose. |
| 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) (Level AA) | Partially Supports | Pages: text meets 4.5:1. Board: text sits on deep backgrounds in the dark themes, and two high-contrast looks (dark and light) are built in. In the coloured themes a few small labels on coloured tiles have not been measured against 4.5:1. |
| 1.4.4 Resize text (Level AA) | Partially Supports | Pages: text enlarges to 200% with browser zoom and nothing is lost. Setup guide and Classroom setup: a Text size choice (Normal, Large, Larger) plus browser zoom down to a 960-pixel-wide floor. The board itself is scaled to fill the screen for reading from across a room, and browser zoom does not enlarge it further. |
| 1.4.5 Images of Text (Level AA) | Supports | Text is text. The only pictures of words are logos (the ClassDa.sh wordmark and the simplified site logos on the Links screen), which are exempt. |
| 1.4.10 Reflow (Level AA) | Partially Supports | Pages reflow to 320 CSS pixels without sideways scrolling. The board is a fixed 16:9 layout for a shared classroom display: it scales to the screen rather than reflowing, so at small sizes it becomes small rather than rearranging. Phones are sent to a separate page built for them. |
| 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast (Level AA) | Supports | Controls and their pieces have thick dark outlines (3 px ink) on every theme, and the high-contrast looks draw every picture as line art. |
| 1.4.12 Text Spacing (Level AA) | Partially Supports | Pages adapt to wider letter, word and line spacing. On the board, names and labels shrink to fit their boxes, and very wide spacing can clip a long label. |
| 1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus (Level AA) | Supports | Almost nothing appears on hover alone. The cog menus and ⓘ notes open on a tap or click, stay until dismissed, and are dismissed with Esc or a tap elsewhere. |
| 2.4.5 Multiple Ways (Level AA) | Supports | Pages are reachable from the header navigation, the footer and a sitemap. The board is one screen. |
| 2.4.6 Headings and Labels (Level AA) | Supports | Headings and labels say what the section or control is for. |
| 2.4.7 Focus Visible (Level AA) | Partially Supports | Pages: the browser's focus ring shows on every link and button. Board: focus is not always clearly outlined on the controls that can take it. |
| 3.1.2 Language of Parts (Level AA) | Supports | The content is in English throughout. Music terms (forte, solfège) are terms of art, which the criterion exempts. |
| 3.2.3 Consistent Navigation (Level AA) | Supports | The pages share one header and footer in one order. Every board screen has its ✕ and corner buttons in the same corner (mirrored together for a left-handed board). |
| 3.2.4 Consistent Identification (Level AA) | Supports | The same control looks and is named the same wherever it appears: ✕ closes, the cog opens a tool's settings, the green corner is +1. |
| 3.3.3 Error Suggestion (Level AA) | Partially Supports | File imports explain what to change (which column is missing, which names were not on the class list). Fields that refuse a value (see 3.3.1) do not yet suggest a correction. |
| 3.3.4 Error Prevention (Legal, Financial, Data) (Level AA) | Supports | Deleting a class, a student, a lesson, a chart or the records asks Are you sure?, and can be put behind the teacher PIN; points have Undo; a reset keeps all-time totals; the schedule and seating editors offer Undo before Done. |
| 4.1.3 Status Messages (Level AA) | Partially Supports | Status is shown visually (the Saved mark, toasts such as "+1 Maya", a timer turning red) but these messages are not yet announced to assistive technology. |
Table 3 (Level AAA) is not included in this report.
